Sustainability
As a company that conducts business activities in countries and regions around the world, we strive
to coexist and prosper in harmony with society and local communities.
Our activities are supported by the trust of the local community. As a responsible member of
society, we adhere to both domestic and international rules and standards.
We also foster mutual understanding and cultural growth across diverse communities. By engaging in
activities that help preserve local landscapes, we are committed to
building strong connections with people in countries and regions around the world where we provide
elevators and escalators.
We announced that the company entered a WheeLog Silver Sponsor agreement with NPO WheeLog on March 29, 2024.
WheeLog is a non-profit organization that aims to create a world in which anyone can go anywhere. The organization is responsible for the development of WheeLog!, an app that provides user-generated accessibility map.
Fujitec entered the agreement in October 2023, after NPO WheeLog President Yuriko Oda gave a lecture at a public interview for the Fujitec communication magazine USNET.
Here, Yuriko Oda spoke on the importance of maintaining and managing highly-reliable
elevators. Constant, safe operation of elevators is indispensable in the daily lives
of people that struggle with mobility.
After the lecture, Fujitec launched discussions on how the companies could partner
to solve environmental and information barriers for people that struggle with
mobility.
These discussions concluded with the two companies entering an agreement
to solve said social issues together.
Going forward, Fujitec will participate in joint research on elevators from the perspective of wheelchair users and provide information on elevator installation on the user-generated accessibility map WheeLog! app.
Fujitec will also collaborate with NPO WheeLog to encourage mutual understanding among diverse people, striving for coexistence with local communities and societies.
Since 2013, we have conducted safety lessons for elementary school students to teach them how to ride elevators and escalators safely. Over the past 11 years, approximately 3,000 students have participated in these lessons.
Safety classes are held at the Big Wing head office in Shiga Prefecture and at elementary schools near our Tokyo head office.
We also conduct similar initiatives overseas. In India, we conducted awareness activities at schools and shopping malls over a three-day period, attracting around 2,000 people. In China, we provide educational sessions at elementary schools, where we introduce the structure and technology of elevators and escalators and teach safe usage practices.
Moving forward, we will continue actively promoting awareness activities to ensure all users can enjoy safe and reliable experiences.
A volunteer team from Shanghai Huasheng Fujitec Escalator, Fujitec Shanghai Sourcing Center, and Fujitec Shanghai Technologies participated in the national civilized city construction activity in Songjiang District to help make the city cleaner.
Eight employees of Fujitec Thailand participated in the treeplanting event organized by AssetWise Public Co., Ltd. and planted 15 trees in Wareephirom Park in the Thai capital of Bangkok.
Fujitec Thailand actively takes part in environmental sustainability activities organized by major developers.
As an initiative of the Head Office in Shiga Prefecture (Japan), Fujitec has participated in reed cutting around Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, since 2014. Reed, a perennial grass, grows around the lake. They are historically used in Japanese daily life, especially as a material for thatched roofs and sudare (reed screens), and Japanese people have been taking care of fields of reed grass.
Cutting grown plants of reed in winter will help the plants to grow new shoots in next year. As such, companies, mainly located in Shiga Prefecture, have established a network for protecting Lake Biwa through reed management to regenerate reed fields. Fujitec takes active part in this initiative.
Harvested plants are processed into "reed paper" and sold as notebooks and copier paper. Sales proceeds are used for activities to grow reeds.
We plan to continue this activity.
Fujitec America participated in "Angel Tree" volunteer activities to provide a gift for children.
"Angel Tree" is an activity that provides a gift to children through the Salvation Army, an American charitable organization. Fujitec America has been participating in and supporting this project since 2022. The process of "Angel Tree" activities is as follows.
①The children registered as "Angels" fill in the tags with their name, age, gender, and the clothes and toys they would like to receive.
②The supporters, who have seen these tags, purchase gifts and deliver them to The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army distributes them to "angels", or children.
At Fujitec America, the tags with children's writing are distributed equally to each department. The employees who receive the tags buy the gifts according to the descriptions on the tags and give them to the children.
The employees said, "We are very happy that we can contribute to the needy children in the local society. We want to participate in this volunteer activity again next year, "and" Fujitec America will continue to take a very positive approach to Angel Tree volunteer activities.
The tag with the name of an item requested by each child is attached to each Christmas gift.
