Kyoto Aquarium

Located in Umekoji Park, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, the Kyoto Aquarium is Japan’s first full-scale inland aquarium. The three-story facility with a total floor area of approximately 11,000 m2 shows some 15,000 marine and freshwater creatures including approximately 250 marine species such as Japanese giant salamanders, seals and penguins. The elevators installed beside Dolphin Stadium, directly facing the five-story stupa of Toji Temple, are protected against brine damage caused by sea water.
