2026.03.27 Fujitec Employees Participate in Wheelchair City Walk Event Hosted by Certified NPO, WheeLog

Fujitec has identified “Coexist with society and local communities” as one of its material issues. As part of these efforts, we have maintained a sponsorship agreement with the certified NPO WheeLog (hereinafter referred to as “WheeLog”) since 2024.

WheeLog is an organization that aims to create “a world in which anyone can go anywhere.” Its diverse activities include the development of the “WheeLog!” barrier-free map app, which allows users to post information about elevators, multipurpose toilets, and other facilities for wheelchair users.

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, a wheelchair city walk event hosted by WheeLog was held in the Chinatown area of Yokohama, with participation from employees of Fujitec’s Technology Research Department within the Research & Development HQ.

These events are held across Japan to help participants experience the steps and obstacles in a city that often go unnoticed and to deepen their understanding of barrier-free environments. They also aim to promote the registration of new spots on the “WheeLog!” barrier-free map app.

On the day of the event, participants first watched a video to review wheelchair operation and assistance methods. Subsequently, approximately 60 people, including wheelchair users, were divided into 11 groups of about five members each to tour the area from Yokohama City Hall to Chinatown. At the end of the event, participants of all ages—ranging from a seven-year-old elementary school student to senior citizens—shared the insights they gained from their respective perspectives and deepened their interactions.

The participating Fujitec employees are currently working to solve challenges such as universal design for elevators. Through this event, they gained firsthand experience of the urgent issues faced in real-life scenarios, such as the difficulty of moving through crowds and the challenge of locating elevators from a wheelchair user’s perspective. The insights gained from these practical experiences will be utilized to improve future product development and services.

Fujitec will continue to contribute to local communities and society by encouraging each employee to increase their awareness of “Safety and Reliability” in urban development and barrier-free environments through such activities.
