Fujitec Receives Order for 239 Elevators for a Metro Project in Chennai, India, Playing a Role in the Construction of Barrier-Free Public Transportation Infrastructure

Shiga, Japan – Fujitec Co., Ltd. has received an order through Fujitec India Private Ltd. (Fujitec India), one of our group companies, for 239 elevators for the Chennai Metro Rail Project (Corridor 3 and 5) in Chennai, southern India. This is the first order Fujitec has received for a metro project in India.

In large urban areas of India, population growth has exacerbated traffic congestion, promoting the Indian government to advance the planned establishment of railway and other public transportation infrastructure. The Chennai Metro Phase 2 project, which will come after the already completed Phase 1 (Corridor 1 and 2) project, will build a north-south and east-west rail network across the city of Chennai.

For the Chennai Metro Rail Project (Corridor 3 and 5), Fujitec will deliver a total of 239 elevators at 54 railway stations (34 underground stations and 20 elevated stations) and one train depot. The elevators to be installed will be equipped with advance features, which will provide “safe and reliability” support for vertical movements at railway stations that provide horizontal connections. The elevators to be delivered will be produced at and supplied from Fujitec India’s elevator plant located in the vicinity of Chennai. They are scheduled for completion in September 2028.
